Defra funding for improving farm productivity

Thursday, 16 December 2021

Defra have announced that farmers in England will be able to access new funding in January. As part of the Farming Investment Fund they will be awarding grants to pay for capital investments to improve farm productivity.
The funding aims to improve the efficiency of agricultural production, reduce environmental impact and encourage automation in areas where labour is an issue.

What can the grant be used for?

  • Robotic equipment – for harvesting, weeding, spraying, feeding, milking etc

  • Other autonomous robotic technology

  • Slurry acidification equipment (to improve nutrient management and reduce ammonia emissions).

Who can apply?

For those wishing to apply the application window is expected to open in mid-January. The scheme is for farmers in England and contractors that deliver agricultural or horticultural activities.

How much money can you apply for?

The minimum grant is £35,000 up to a maximum of £500,000 per theme. However, the grants can only cover up to 40% of the costs of a project. Other grants are also available in areas such as Farming Equipment and Water Management. For full details of how to apply visit Farming Investment Fund
