Potato Weekly

22 November 2019

At a glance

  • A drier few days has provided some respite from the rain for growers, however saturated soils continue to cause severe lifting issues across much of the country.
  • Price increases have been seen in many market sectors, particularly for best quality supplies.
  • Some supplies in store are reportedly facing heavy grading. There are reports of growers opting to hold off opening stores at current free-buy prices, particularly for those holding best quality.

Provisional production estimate

As announced at British Potato 2019, the provisional production estimate has come in at between 4.8 & 5.1 million tonnes - with much depending on how much area is lost to the weather, and the quality achieved from a wet harvest.
