It’s National BBQ Week and the sun is shining, what more of an excuse do we need to fire up the barbeque? June is looking a lot more promising already with some glorious weather, lockdown restrictions easing, and on-farm events are coming back! Find out what’s in store this month…

Rebecca Miah, AHDB Beef & Lamb Strategy Director

Welcome

In typical British style, we prayed for rain after an unusually dry Spring, and it came down in bucket loads giving one of the coldest and rainiest Mays on record. Working in British agriculture is not for the faint hearted and we can’t wait for the opportunity to get out on farm to see you all again. In July we are delighted to be running our first on-farm events post lockdown hosted by our 2019 recruit of Strategic Farmers. Keep an eye out on our events page to register for your free place.
Last month our lead analyst for livestock, Duncan Wyatt, was interviewed about ways the beef industry might need to change to meet future challenges and the role data will play in the future of beef farms. This included things such as business resilience, staying competitive, markets and consumer behaviour, climate change, new payment schemes and more. The good news is that making environmental improvements should increase sustainability and productivity. As Duncan points out, anything done to cut carbon footprints should help reduce costs too. Read more about his interview on The Cattle Site.

Our new marketing campaign Fire Up For Summer is aimed at inspiring consumers to use premium cuts, showing off the ease and versatility of cooking with beef, lamb and pork steaks on the barbecue. This week is National BBQ week, so get those barbeques fired up and try out some of our recipes…enjoy!

Keep safe and best wishes

Strategic Farms

Bringing events back out on farm

The wait is nearly over! As of July we will be back out on farm delivering five face-to-face events hosted by our 2019 recruit of Strategic Farmers, and we can’t wait. There will be feedback on the carbon audits the farmers have taken part in, providing practical advice on simple changes to reduce your carbon footprint. There will also be a discussion around the changes each farmer has made since joining the Farm Excellence programme and plans for next steps. If you fancy coming along, take a look at the events page for more information. Please make sure you book your free place in advance as tickets are on a first come, first served basis due to restricted numbers at face to face events.
