Independent UK Farm Assurance Review
Your views are needed as part of an independent review of farm assurance schemes.
The industry-wide review (led by an Independent Commission) looks at the future of assurance schemes in a post-Brexit world and will examine:
- How farm assurance can deliver value back to scheme members
- How standards are developed to meet the evolving needs of members, the markets they serve, sector diversity and appreciation of the global marketplace
- How assurance members are engaged with (including the development of standards), inspected and how technology is used in assurance now and in future
- How assurance schemes can and should fit with regulation and government schemes to best serve members
The Commission has set up a farmer survey to hear your views and experiences to help shape its findings.
Take part in the short survey
The survey closes on 31 August 2024, and we encourage all levy payers to take part to help the Commission capture a complete picture of all views on assurance.
The assurance review was jointly commissioned by AHDB and the National Farmers' Union, along with NFU Cymru, The Ulster Farmers' Union and NFU Scotland, and is being carried out by the Independent Commission, led by Dr David Llewellyn CBE, former Vice Chancellor of Harper Adams University.

Earlier this year, as part of our work to build children’s confidence in cooking and nutrition, we launched an initiative to provide free ingredients to schools.
The programme supplied essential ingredients such as British pork, beef, flour, and dairy products, enabling schools to offer practical food lessons that many would otherwise struggle to afford.

High risk of fusarium and ergot after wet 2024
After some very wet weather in 2024, there is a heightened risk of ergot and fusarium infection in some crops, which poses a risk to livestock.
Although harvested crops being processed through a mill will be thoroughly checked, the risk remains where grain is being used directly on farm to feed livestock.
