Mixed picture for farm profitability in 2024
UK Total Income from Farming (TIFF) in 2024 increased by 26% year-on-year.
Figures show beef output increased by 9.3%, year-on-year, to £4.1 billion. Prime cattle prices were the main drivers spurred by tight supplies and high demand. Overall GB prime cattle prices were 6% higher than the three-year rolling average in 2024.
AHDB lamb prices (NSL + OSL SQQ) averaged 693.3p/kg in 2024, compared with 578.1p/kg in 2023, and were 13% higher than the three-year rolling average.

From 1 July 2025, the bluetongue restricted zone was extended to cover all of England. This means that you will now be able to move animals within England without a bluetongue licence or test.
If you keep animals in England and routinely move animals into Wales or Scotland, you need to check for updates online at GOV.WALES and GOV.SCOT on what licences you will need and whether or not you will need to organise and pay for a pre-movement test.
